They also have a nativity
set, like the complete one I made for my children (on the right) to
play with. I sent the animals to add to their set this year. It
always bothered me to hear people say - "don't touch Baby Jesus or
the manger set". Shouldn't Jesus be something we want to touch
and hold dear? That is the true treasure of Christmas. I want my grandchildren
to know him and touch him. They have another nativity in their
yard that I left when I visited them in 2007. The boys enjoy
having that one too as a reminder of me and of what Christmas is all
about.
More family traditions
continue in their home as their stockings are hung. Each year
they hang on their fireplace mantle waiting to be filled with treasures
that the boys enjoying finding in them. This year all these stocking
made the trip back to Wisconsin to hang with the rest of our family
stockings on Grandma and Grandpa's mantle.
There is another tradition
in these pictures too. The Gingerbread Village on the mantel
is one I made for my family when Melissa was little and now she shares
it with her family.
