Just north of the campground on Highway 32
is Quartz Hill. The trail begins at the highway and takes you
.4 miles to the top of McCauslin Mountain. The trail has moderately
steep sections. The area of open rock outcrop affords fine views
of landscape to the south. Along the trail to the top you will
pass a quartz deposit. This area of McCauslin Mountain has long
been known for its fine quartz crystal. Early Indians came here
to quarry quartz to create their tools.
We have taken many walks up
this hill and have brought down a few quartz rocks. A special souvenir
rock from this day sits at my trailer and reminds me of that visit
to the mountain. Now come talk a walk with me up the Quartz Hill
and enjoy it too.
